Manzamigos A.C. Members Only

Manzamigos A.C. originated in the year 2000, as the result of a brainstorming meeting of Rogelio Rueda, Mayor of Manzanillo, Guillermo Gomez, Gen. Mgr of Tema Nissan, Manzanillo and the late Bill Ziener, US Consular Warden for Costa Alegre, along with heads of various departments pertinent to tourists and foreign residents of the area.

It was a difficult beginning as there were only the 5 members who actively formed the Association. In 2001, Nigel Rumford was elected President and commenced on the journey towards what is now Manzamigos A.C. (A.C. meaning Non-profit Associations Civil) with his main objective being to form a helpful and cohesive foreign community base. In February, 2008 Gerry Szakacs took over from Nigel Rumford as President of the Association. In February, 2010, Linda Breun was elected President.

From humble beginnings Manzamigos A.C. has grown to a member list of approximately 250 individuals. The group provides regular newsletters, an extensive library of very valuable information to members and new arrivals to Manzanillo.

One of the most visible benefits to members is the weekly “Thirsty Thursday” event for members and their guests. From the initial dozen or so participants in the high season, these dinners regularly see close to 40 at every off season function and 100 or more in season. The season is November till Easter. This has become one of the main events in Manzanillo for foreign residents as people meet interesting people and make friends. This is the best way to get integrated into community life. Each year, Manzamigos A.C assists in Christmas parties for local children and participates in the Carnivale Parade in February or March.
